The Work

Music is my job, and making records in the studio is technically work, but its also something i like to think of as “the work”. We show up to the studio everyday and do “the work”. And “the work” is important. With music, its a chance to relate to others, and create shared experiences and emotions. Its fun, and it story telling, and its humor, and can define our culture. It also has the power to influence society and change the world.

The power of music always amazes me. Watching an audience, fully engaged in a band or an artists set, especially one whose songs and lyrics resonate with the, is a powerful experience. We don’t just consume music, we LOVE it.

Music in any form is a practice - one that requires diligence and slow progress - and that practice allows us to create and share this powerful thing we call music with world. I decided long ago to put everything I have into creating music. Into doing “the work”.

I just wanted to wax poetic for a second about my love for this craft, this art, this community, and remind myself, in written form, how great it is, and how important it is. So go do the work! Its worth it.
